GridCraft for Photoshop — Layout & typographic grids
  Installation Guide (v1.0)
==================================================================

GridCraft builds 30+ classic layout and typographic grid systems
fitted to your canvas, output as native Photoshop GUIDES.

This download includes TWO editions — pick the one that matches your
Photoshop. You only need ONE.

GridCraft.ccx <- MODERN edition (UXP plugin). RECOMMENDED.
                          Easiest install: just double-click it.
GridCraft/ (folder) <- LEGACY edition (CEP extension) for older
Photoshop, or if the .ccx won't install.

  ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
  │ Photoshop 2021 (v22) or newer ........ use METHOD 1 (.ccx) │
  │ Photoshop 2019–2020, or .ccx fails ... use METHOD 2 (folder)│
  └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘

==================================================================
METHOD 1 — GridCraft.ccx (recommended, no extra tools)
==================================================================
This is the easy one. No "debug mode", no Terminal, no ZXP installer.
You just need the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app (which you already
have if you installed Photoshop).

  1. Quit Photoshop.
  2. Double-click GridCraft.ccx
The Creative Cloud desktop app opens and installs the plugin.
(If macOS/Windows asks what to open it with, choose
"Creative Cloud" / "Adobe Creative Cloud".)
  3. Open Photoshop.
  4. Open the panel from: Plugins > GridCraft > GridCraft
     Dock it wherever you like.

That's it — it stays installed permanently. To remove it later, open
the Creative Cloud app > Stock & Marketplace > Manage plugins.

==================================================================
METHOD 2 — GridCraft folder (legacy CEP, older Photoshop)
==================================================================
Use this only if METHOD 1 didn't work or you're on an older Photoshop.

------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1 — COPY THE FOLDER INTO THE CEP EXTENSIONS DIRECTORY
------------------------------------------------------------------
Move the "GridCraft" folder from this download into:

  macOS:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/
(In Finder: Go > Go to Folder… and paste:
     ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions )

  Windows:
    C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions\

If the "CEP" or "extensions" folders don't exist, create them.
Final path should look like:
  …/Adobe/CEP/extensions/GridCraft/CSXS/manifest.xml

NOTE: If you also use the Illustrator edition of GridCraft, keep the
two in separate folders (e.g. name this one "GridCraftPS"). They have
different IDs and won't conflict.

------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2 — ENABLE UNSIGNED EXTENSIONS (one-time)
------------------------------------------------------------------
>>> THIS STEP IS REQUIRED. <<<
>>> To avoid a white/empty panel, you MUST do this step. <<<

Adobe blocks unsigned extensions by default. The folder edition is
unsigned, so Photoshop will show a BLANK white panel unless you
enable "debug mode" once. This is safe — it simply tells Photoshop
to allow unsigned extensions like GridCraft to load.

  ─── macOS ───

Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal), paste this
  single line, and press Return:

    defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.12 PlayerDebugMode 1 && defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.11 PlayerDebugMode 1 && defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.10 PlayerDebugMode 1 && defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.9 PlayerDebugMode 1 && echo "Done — now restart Photoshop."

You should see "Done — now restart Photoshop." That's it.

(If you prefer to paste one line at a time:)

    defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.12 PlayerDebugMode 1
    defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.11 PlayerDebugMode 1
    defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.10 PlayerDebugMode 1
    defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.9 PlayerDebugMode 1

  ─── Windows ───

Press Win+R, type regedit and press Enter. Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\CSXS.12

In the right pane, right-click > New > String Value.
  Name it: PlayerDebugMode
Double-click it and set the value data to: 1

  Repeat for CSXS.11, CSXS.10, and CSXS.9.
(If a CSXS.x key doesn't exist, skip that one.)

Tip: the CSXS number matches the CEP version of your Photoshop.
Setting 9–12 covers all recent versions, so just do them all.

(A ZXP installer can also install the folder edition for you and
skips this step. The free ZXP/UXP Installer is available at:
 https://aescripts.com/learn/zxp-installer/
But for most people, METHOD 1 with the .ccx is simpler.)

------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 3 — RESTART PHOTOSHOP & OPEN THE PANEL
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Fully quit Photoshop (Cmd+Q / Alt+F4), then reopen it.
2. Go to: Window > Extensions (legacy) > GridCraft
(In some versions it's simply Window > Extensions.)
3. Dock the panel wherever you like.

------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO USE (both editions)
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Open or create a document.
2. Click "↻ Measure" to confirm the canvas size in pixels.
3. Pick a grid (columns, modular, baseline, golden section,
Fibonacci, rule of thirds, 8-point, 12-column, material, bento,
isometric, Van de Graaf, and more).
4. Set the parameters, choose a color & stroke width.
5. Click "Build Grid".

The panel scrolls — if your window is short, scroll inside the panel
or drag its edge to see every control and the Build button.

To remove a grid: View > Clear Guides (for guides), and/or delete
the "GridCraft — …" layer. A single Undo (Cmd/Ctrl+Z) also works.

------------------------------------------------------------------
STILL HAVING ISSUES?
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. (.ccx) Double-clicking does nothing / no Creative Cloud prompt?
Make sure the Creative Cloud desktop app is installed and signed
in, then double-click GridCraft.ccx again. Or use METHOD 2.

2. (folder) Panel is BLANK / white?
This is almost always Step 2. Go back and run the Terminal
command (Mac) or add the registry values (Windows), then fully
   quit and reopen Photoshop.

3. "GridCraft" isn't in Window > Extensions?
Redo Step 2, fully restart Photoshop, and check the folder path
   from Step 1 is exact.

4. Did you copy the whole folder?
Make sure the entire GridCraft folder (with js/, jsx/, CSXS/,
icons/ subfolders) was copied, not just some of the files.

5. Can't see all the controls / the Build button?
The panel scrolls. Scroll down inside it, or drag the panel's
   edge to make it taller.

6. Guides didn't appear?
Make sure View > Show > Guides is on (Cmd/Ctrl+;).

------------------------------------------------------------------
UNINSTALL
------------------------------------------------------------------
• .ccx edition: Creative Cloud app > Manage plugins > remove.
• folder edition: delete the "GridCraft" folder from CEP/extensions.
